Top-5 independent journalists you should be following on social media
If you are looking to stay informed and avoid the influence of large corporations, here are five independent journalists that you should be following.
As the current administration has asked that legacy media make space for extreme media sources like Breitbart News Network, OANN and Huffington Post, finding non-corporate-influenced, independent media sources may become more and more difficult. Here is a list of five independent journalists with a history of honesty. They may not have the “star power” name—although some do or are close—they have the determination to become the next wave of influential journalists.
Aaron Parnas
Probably one of my favorite new follows is Aaron Parnas. Aaron is a lawyer and independent journalist out of DC. In addition to writing his own content, Parnas also contributes to MeidasTouch Network (MTN) on a regular basis with stories on politics.

Brian Tyler Cohen
Brian Tyler Cohen, while now a contributor to MSNBC began as an independent journalist and maintains his independence. Cohen’s “in-your-face” style of journalism mimics the journalistic style of Rachel Maddow. If you are looking for something more “balanced,” this may not be the source for you as Cohen tends to lean to the left quite a bit!

Jim Acosta
You know the name. A former CNN journalist and anchor, Jim Acosta recently bid fair well the network and is now working independently. With his history of telling truth to the powers that be and his connections in the world of politics and news, Acosta would be an excellent addition to your media sources.

Kiera Spann
Kiera Spann, or the “famous blond” is an independent writer whose focus is politics and feminism. With a mass following on the social media site X, she moved over to Bluesky in December and has amassed nearly 44 thousand followers in that time. Those are good numbers! Spann contributes to the “Feminist” channel on both Threads and Instagram.

Marisa Kabas
Marisa Kabas is a Brooklyn-based writer and journalist. Kabas has a strong following on her independent website, The Handbasket, and began the site as an independent writing project, after watching the world of journalism crumble over the past decade. According to Kabas’s website, she covered politics and now her stories have even been quoted in The Washington Post, The Columbia Journalism Review and she’s been a guest several times on MSNBC.
